We can’t pick the weather for any given day, no matter how much careful planning we may exercise otherwise. But for these two Tolkein enthusiasts, it’s hard to imagine a more perfect setting than the thick fog that enveloped them, for their burgundy wedding day on the side of a misty mountain.

Dreaming Up a Burgundy Wedding
Emily and Tyler opted for a micro wedding– a more intimate gathering of family and friends– at the lovely Cloudland Canyon State Park in Rising Fawn, Georgia. As far as colors, Emily wanted a burgundy wedding, with blushes and whites as well. The reception would be held at a rustic shelter at the state park, with wooden beams hung with twinkle lights. And a large, cozy stone hearth would be rendered warmer still by a collection of our white pillar candles. Gold candlesticks in various sizes and styles would grace the tables, along with dainty cut-glass bud vases– filled with more burgundies, blushes, and whites– and white votive candles, scattered throughout, on a backdrop of lush emerald green velvet runners and trailing greenery. How whimsical!
All the Floral Details
The flowers we went with? Some of our favorites– burgundy ranunculus, blush cappuccino roses, and white and terra cotta lisianthus! To achieve the slightly wild, organic feel, we layered in white ginestra and starlike astrantia in a gorgeous burgundy hue. We also tucked in sprigs of olive branch. Boutonnieres for the the groom and bride’s father (who also officiated the wedding–how sweet!) included more burgundy ranunculus and astrantia, with tiny olive branch sprigs.
A Naturally Delightful Burgundy Wedding
It was a crisp but not-too-chilly morning as we made our way to Cloudland Canyon State Park. We drove carefully, because of the fog creeping in. To our surprise and delight, we came across a wild turkey– tall and scrappy– picking his way through the woods to the roadway. We gave him plenty of space as he trotted down the road in front of us, and we watched as he wove his way back and forth on the asphalt. Then he reached his stop and headed back into the woods. When a bride and groom include you in their special day, you never know what you might find!
That Pre-Wedding Buzz!
The atmosphere was sweet and friendly that morning, while vendors and family buzzed around getting ready. We love that moment in a wedding day when the slow and calm anticipation becomes “it’s actually happening!” The caterers bantered cheerfully as they set up for lunch and a hot cocoa bar. And before we even pointed out the greenery set aside for the cake, the baker, Toni from Sweet Angel Cakes, had already tucked olive sprigs and luscious berries into her elegant creation. As soon as the photographer saw the boutonnieres we brought in, she knew just how she wanted to stage the rings. And speaking of rings, when we saw photos of the inscription inside the groom’s ring– “Po-tay-toes!”– we began to suspect that these two were serious fans of the Lord of the Rings stories.
An Enchanted Wedding Day
Emily certainly glowed like an Elven fairy in her delicate lace dress, with filmy lantern sleeves. Her golden brown hair was twisted into braids, which then fell into long ringlets. Gorgeous! And in her hand of course, she carried the wild, carefree bouquet–perfect adornment for a woodsy wedding. At the reception, an emerald green velvet runner was the tastefully rich background for all those gold candlesticks and lovely bud vases. And the lights twinkling overhead and candles beaming brightly made it a truly enchanted gathering for friends and loved ones.
Warm Wishes for Emily & Tyler
It was surely a joy to cross paths with Emily and Tyler and all who joined in to celebrate the next chapter of their story together. We know that they will enjoy many an adventure in their lives! Warmest wishes for the journey!
