Couples everywhere are looking for the best mattress stores online. Whether you are newlyweds making a home together or have been in your home and sleeping on the same mattress for years, we’ve found all the best mattresses online to give you a better night’s sleep! I’ve recently had extensive experience with shopping for and purchasing new mattresses online, I’m sharing my TOP 10 MATTRESSES with you, and why they made the list.

In the past few years, I made 5 purchases from mattress stores online for our home, and have slept on 2 more in homes I was visiting. Plus, I recently tested out about a dozen of the most popular brand at a local mattress store, like Purple, Nectar, Sealy, and more. So, I’m sharing with you all the real-life experience to help you make the best decision for your online mattress purchase. With mattresses ranging from around $400-$2,000+, there’s an option for every budget!

The Basics of Shopping at Online Mattress Stores

So, basically, there are three different categories of mattresses you can buy online:

• Memory Foam
• Hybrid
• GelFlex Grid (only from the Purple brand)

Memory Foam

Memory Foam is exactly what it sounds like. A mattress made up of all foam. But don’t be fooled. Not all memory foam mattresses are created equal. Several years ago, this was the first type of “bed-in-a-box” mattress you could buy online.  They are shipped all rolled up and compacted.  And you just open it up and let it rise and decompress.   People loved their cushiony comfortable feel, but found that because of their density, they made most people sleep very hot.  So, these memory foam mattresses have evolved to include either a cooling fabric top cover, a gel-infused cooling foam top layer, or in some cases both (look for words like “dual-cooling”).

When shopping these memory foam options from mattress stores online, be sure to look at their diagrams to see how the layers stack up.  Typically, they start with a more dense supportive layer, and get more comfortable and cushiony toward the top.  And a general rule of thumb is the thicker the memory foam mattress, the softer it will get. 

Hybrid

The hybrid mattress combines a coil layer of some kind at the bottom, and foam layers toward the top.  Again, diagrams should show how these layer stack up, and explain the benefits.  In my extensive research, it seems as though the less expensive options of Hybrid mattresses can sleep very firm.  Many online mattress store reviews are full of people complaining about a hybrid mattress that claims to be “medium”, feels more like “firm” to them. For this reason, I wouldn’t recommend a Hybrid mattress for you if you’re afraid of it feeling too firm, unless you have a larger budget (at least $1,000+). Or, I would highly recommend you check before you buy on the mattress store’s trial period and return policies.  

GelFlex Grid

GelFlex Grid is the structure inside all Purple brand mattresses.  Some have an extremely thick GelFlex Layer, and some are just 2” thick or so.  This technology is in a category all its own.  And people tend to either love or hate it’s feel.  It is more bouncy, squishy, and there’s a slight increase in the transfer of motion compared to memory foam and hybrids. This technology has been used in the medical community for years to prevent bedsores and relieve pressure in bed-ridden patients.

10. LEEZA 11″ HYBRID MATTRESS

Leeza is one of the original bed-in-a box memory foam online mattress stores. So their quality and customer satisfaction is through the roof. My sister has had several Leeza mattresses in her home, and I have slept on a couple when visiting her house, and they’re always SO comfortable.

Leeza’s original memory foam mattress was the first “bed-in-a-box” that I ever slept on. My sister got one for her and her husband, and loved it so much they got one for the guest room. Sleep when visiting her is always so recuperative on this Leeza. Their online specs say it’s a Medium firmness, but I definitely think it leans a bit on the softer side. This one will run you around $1,350. Leeza had a 100-night trial period and a 10-year limited warranty.

This one doesn’t have any kind of cooling feature, so if you tend to sleep hot, keep reading for some other options that will help cool you down at night.

2. ZINUS GREEN TEA MEMORY FOAM MATTRESS

If you’re looking for something more affordable, this one is it! We’ve been sleeping on this Zinus 12 Inch Green Tea Cooling Gel Memory Foam Mattress for years. We have loved it so much that we even bought one for our second bedroom as well. It features pressure relieving technology, layers of ultra-cooling gel and green tea infused memory foam. We originally bought their 10″ version, but found it to be a little too firm. So, we took advantage of amazon’s 30-day return policy to exchange it for the 12″ (Don’t forget, the thicker the memory foam mattress, the softer it will end up feeling).

Over the course of several years, we did notice that this one started to sag a bit in the areas where we lay most often. However, at under $400, it was a fabulous buy for us at a time when we were on a tight budget! The Zinus 12 Inch Green Tea Cooling Gel Memory Foam Mattress is our most affordable suggestion!
