Liz and Daniel April wedding took place in the coolest retro boutique-style social club in downtown Chattanooga.
Retro-Inspired Wedding
This old YMCA built in 1929 was recently restored to it’s original beauty. Common House Chattanooga now offers not only an event space, but a members-only place to dine, work, and connect.
As an event space, we love the retro charm that exists amung every corner of this building. From the terra cotta floor tiles, to the old retro gym turned reception space, to the glass breaker diffuser and candle holders in the bathroom…this place takes you back to art decor and mid-century living.
Because of the clean lines, black accents, and warm architectural details of the building, Liz chose a whimsical style for the flowers of their Spring wedding. I love how the bridal party’s black-tie attire elevated the event and helped the flowers pop.
We did an organic-style greenery installation above the fireplace in the venue’s Pennybacker room, where the rehearsal dinner took place, as well as the cocktail house. Then for the ceremony, am arched grounded floral installation (which was a challenge on this extremely windy day and an astro turf lawn unable to accept stakes in the ground. But with some quick brainstorming of my team, we were able to secure the installation using fishing line, so that it wouldn’t tip over in the wind.
For Liz and her bridesmaids’ bouquets, we used whimsical garden-style mix of ranunculus, scabiosa, quicksand roses, wax flower and spirea. We loved how Liz chose a black chiffon flowing ribbon. It was a bold choice, but when you see all the black accents throughout the wedding, it just makes sense. This spring wedding, although very windy with some extra challenges, was a dream to work on.
